Product Done Different.

Black hiking backpack with padded straps and adjustable waist belt, standing on a plain white background.

Backpacks go places. In them we carry what’s important for each adventure. A good backpack allows us to explore the world.

XOÀI Packs was started in 2025 by Owen Sutter, an Oregonian living in Vietnam and working in Asia’s manufacturing industry.

The idea is simple:

  1. Design product that prioritizes people at both ends of the supply chain.

  2. Communicate costs transparently.

What started as a napkin sketch for an adventure backpack became a prototype, then a Kickstarter. Since then, hundreds of people in 15 different countries have backed the project.

XOÀI Packs proposes a different relationship to global manufacturing; one that is genuinely good, personal, and reasonable. We’re here to prove technical, affordable gear can be made ethically and with dignity in Asia. XOÀI Packs is uniquely tapped into the Asia manufacturing environment and the PNW adventure scene. Our goal is nothing short of realizing a better way to do the product industry.

We’re a young company, with big dreams. Thanks for supporting!

About the founder

Man in motorcycle gear smiling and giving a thumbs-up beside a loaded motorcycle on a mountainous road with cloudy sky.

Owen spent four years living in Vietnam leading new product development, supply chain transfer, and operational improvement projects for major global brands. Between long hours on factory floors, whirlwind prototype builds, and supplier visits, he fell in love with Vietnam—the people, the language, the cuisine, and—of course—the motorbikes.

Raised in Oregon, Owen has always sought out far-flung roads. While planning a solo motorcycle trip through the Himalayas, he realized he didn’t have a backpack he trusted enough to take with him. The packs he saw on the market were either overpriced or soullessly mass-produced.

Owen has seen firsthand how big brands prioritize profit margins by cutting corners on design, labor, and transparency. People at both ends of the supply chain get squeezed. Factory workers in Asia face low wages and poor conditions. Customers in the U.S. face inflated prices and mediocre gear.

XOÀI Packs was founded to prove technical, ethically-sourced gear can be affordable.

Owen is from Portland, Oregon, and holds a degree in Design and Innovation Management from Oregon State University. He splits his time between Asia and the Pacific Northwest.
